“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight…  In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”  (Ephesians 1:4,11)

In our last post, we explored the amazing topic of how blessed we are in Christ (and we barely scratched the surface!). We were reminded in God’s Word that we have every spiritual blessing in Christ and one of those blessings is our being chosen. The magnitude of that reality is enormous!

Because our natural perspective on earth is limited and often skewed due to life experiences, our being chosen is hard to fathom period, much less believe to be an actual blessing. Negative associations sometimes inhibit us and keep us from really believing how great this is.

  • Maybe because your parents didn’t plan to have you or because they favored another sibling, you went through life feeling unwanted.
  • You may have been the last one picked for the kickball team in your elementary school gym class. No one thought you were any good and that stuck with you into your adult life.
  • Someone else undeservedly received the promotion that you worked so hard for. You were looked over and unappreciated.
  • Possibly a spouse was unfaithful to you in a relationship and they chose to be with another person over you.

Can you relate to any? There are countless reasons that the world makes us feel as though we were not really chosen. Or, on the flip side, because the prominent employer or the attractive man acknowledged you, you’ve put more stock in being chosen by them rather than being chosen by our Heavenly Father. What's your experience?

Before we jump into this week’s discussion, pause to really consider how incredibly blessed we are to be chosen by God Himself. The Creator of the Universe chose us to be His before even creating the world. It’s hard to wrap our earthly, finite minds around this but when we shift to the heavenly realms, we begin to see just how awesome that really is.

As we make the decision to shift into the heavenly realms to truly believe that our being chosen is a blessing, let’s look at Ephesians 1:4 again to really lock in a few things:

  • Who chose us?
  • When were we chosen?
  • Why were we chosen?

Every week’s topic will build on the next, but before we can tackle the magnitude of our redemption or holiness or call to the Body of Christ, we must be assured of this:  I AM CHOSEN.

Our amazing, loving, perfect, holy God handpicked you long before you were ever in your mother’s womb. You were chosen not because of your parents or your gifts or your employer, but because GOD loves you and has an amazing plan for you. Do you believe this?

Reflection Questions:
Do you view being chosen by God as a blessing with a purpose? If not, what has hindered your assurance of being chosen by God and the purpose that is linked to it? (i.e. label, circumstance, etc.)

Find at least one verse that declares what God says about you. When contradicting thoughts come, combat the lies and labels of the enemy with the Word! Remember, this series is all about who GOD says we are. Let's cling to His promises!

Join us on Thursday for a special CHOSEN guest post!
