As a young child, I prayed a very specific prayer and asked God to give me a brother. Time passed and I learned from my parents that a baby was on the way. And, on October 15, 1983, I got to see firsthand the answer to my prayer … a little brother named Matthew John.
Matthew means Gift of God and what an appropriate name. His life has been a gift to many. I am grateful for the wonderful memories that we have shared and so appreciate his kindness, compassion, generosity, and (can’t forget!) hysterical sense of humor. I don’t know anyone who can make me laugh the way my brother does. We share a lifetime of inside jokes.
Today is Matt’s 30th birthday and, before this day comes to a close, I want to take a moment to honor him on this significant day.
Matt, there is no real present I could give you that could express how much I love you. It seems like yesterday that I held you as a baby when you came home for the first time with Mom and Dad. Now you are a grown man with many gifts and talents, a loving and faithful husband, a persevering and hard worker, and a gracious and understanding friend. You truly are a gift from God … particularly to me. I am so grateful to The Lord for answering the prayer of a little girl decades ago.
Praying this is a year full of abundant blessings and wonderful gifts from God!
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. - James 1:17
Happy Birthday, Matt! I love you!
