Five Minute Friday: Race

I've known about Five Minute Friday for awhile but have just peered in from afar and figured I'd jump in "one of these days." Recently, I considered it again but figured I should wait until our Stress Point study was over so it didn't clash with the topic we're on. But tonight, after peering in on the Five Minute Friday Twitter Party for several weeks, I finally decided it would only be right to join in on the fun. So, after an evening of unexpected fun and hashtags, I join in on the FMF fam...

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Race

So often when we I hear about a race, the immediate thought that comes to mind is the speed and the competition of it all.

But when we are I am consumed with what place we I will finish in or how fast we I will get there, so much is lost.

We I think about the runners but not the ones who help the runners cross the finish line.

The ones who hold up their signs to cheer at the top of their lungs.

The ones who stand waiting in the cold for hours just to pass someone a cup of water.

The ones who jump in at mile 23 when the runner hits a wall and encourages them all the way to the end.

Those are the ones who come to mind because, though I press on toward the goal, we need those people to finish the race.

this is awesome! it is so true. as one who's had those friends and other cheering, supporting, praying me along - where would I be without them.

thanks for this reminder and the challenge to be one who encourages others in their race.

Awesome post! I am a first time FMFer too! It was fun... went by FAST... was so hard to not edit or want to rewrite... and a little scary to just put it out there like that - but I suppose that that is what this is all about, right? Being real... authentic... being a writer! Welcome... I am sure, like me, this will be the first of many FMF Posts!

What a great thought. Not only do I need to be one of those people on the sidelines - encouraging those around me - but I also need to be thankful to those who are encouraging me to run well.

Yes! Love the reminder that our job isn't always to race, it's to sometimes help someone else to cross the finish line :) So glad you joined FMF!

Love this: "I press on toward the goal, we need those people to finish the race."

No race is run alone.

Fantastic! It gave me goosebumps-- such a legit and fresh perspective! You are so right-- we aren't running this race alone and we DO need each other!

Thanks so much for stepping out in faith to participate in FMF. Welcome to our community and hope you are back each week (it's a GREAT time!)

Be blessed my friend!

Amen. Here's to more cheerleaders: being one and having them in our lives!
