Look Up!

Ugh. That pretty much describes my Monday. I think I was asleep more hours of the day than I was awake – ‘thanks’ to another migraine.  I’m only now sitting down to write and wish that so much time hadn’t been swallowed up once again.  That doesn’t make me happy.  Not. At. All.

I could easily get stuck in a funk because my day did not work out the way I hoped it would and because I'm constantly not feeling well. That’s what has happened in the past. I’m not gonna lie, these migraines and other annoying symptoms can get on my nerves. I do get frustrated. But I praise God for helping me to take my thoughts captive so I don't get stuck in that all-too-familiar pit of negativity and discouragement.

Colossians 3 has been a recurring passage as of late. I was reading the book of Colossians recently and then two other people have shared scriptures from chapter 3 over the past few days. Whenever the same verses keep coming my way, my spiritual antennas go up. God is God and doesn’t have to repeat anything but when He does, it’s time to pay attention…

Here are two of those verses…

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. – Colossians 3:1-2

Seek the things above... Set your minds on the things that are above.

Why? Because the Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens! (Psalm 113)

When our eyes are fixed on the things that are on earth, we lose perspective. Things that shouldn’t sway us do and the things that should be clear all of a sudden get a little foggy. It happens to all of us but the question is – what do you do when it happens? When we need our spiritual eyesight adjusted, all we have to do is look up.

Are you in need of help?
Look up!
To the hills … to the Lord who created heaven and earth.
He who knows every star by name also knows you and loves you! He's not just a creator, He's our Father and is able to provide, heal, strengthen, and encourage.

Do you feel like you’re barely keeping your head above water?
Look up!
To the God who sits enthroned over the flood. He is stronger and will not let you drown in your circumstances. He will give you strength and peace.

Is it hard to stay encouraged when so much around you pulls you down?
Look up!
To the one who is our shield and our glory; the One who lifts our heads when we can barely lift our eyes.

In my choosing to 'look up' earlier, I was encouraged and strengthened! God's promises are true. I pray you all are blessed by God's Word, too.

I am also encouraged about our upcoming online Bible study - which is all about the Word! It’s exciting to see so many people excited about it. What a confirmation. I already have a few of the guest posts ready and they are incredible! I know you ladies will be encouraged. At the end of the day, it’s all about the Word of God changing our lives and I believe that as we take these ten weeks to 'look up' together, there will be much to testify and rejoice about. I can't wait!

What a great post. Keeping my eyes on things above, even when it's a little hazy down here.

BTW, you're such an encourager that I wrote about you on my blog today. I hope you stop by and see:) http://www.dianadenis.com/2012/08/i-just-received-liebster-award.html#more
