What Hope Looks Like

This is what hunger looks like.

Malnourishment in India is among the highest in the entire world. In this country alone, two million children die every year. 6,000 kids will die today. Not in the whole world. Just in India. Six. Thousand. Kids. Can you wrap your mind around it? I struggle to. Imagine that every seat in Radio City Music Hall is filled with kids. That’s about how much. Except they aren't in the middle of Manhattan. They are in India. Dying of starvation, dehydration, or disease. No food to eat. No clean water to drink. No toilets. No beds. No pillows. No toothbrushes. No hope...

To us as Americans, that sort of poverty is unfathomable. Yet this is a reality for millions and millions of people. Healthcare is a major debate in our nation but in India, there’s not much to debate about. There’s no Medicaid or Obama care sort of option there. Medical care for the poor simply does not exist. No clinics or soup kitchens. It’s a sad reality and something needs to be done about this. And something can be done. Through us.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by this epidemic and think that no progress can ever be made but that’s not true. We really can make a difference. One of the ministries making significant progress and doing great exploits for God is Gospel for Asia. I’ve written about GFA before – truly a phenomenal ministry. They are changing lives through the love of Christ – on earth and for eternity! This is their mission statement: “We are committed as a family of believers to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with lost men, women and children throughout Asia who have still not heard His precious name.” One of the ways GFA serves is through Bridge of Hope, which is an outreach that educates children, reaching out especially to those who are in the low-caste (the Dalit and "Untouchable" communities). Through Bridge of Hope, education, food, books, and medical care are provided for these precious children. And most importantly, the kids are encountering the Love of Jesus, which has resulted in the transformation of entire communities. These are the kind of people to link up with to help bring change to India. Consider supporting a child through Bridge of Hope.

This is what hope looks like...

Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. - Isaiah 58:10

Your gift can make an eternal difference!

*If you have not already done so, read "Revolution in World Missions" (available for free!). This book truly revolutionized my way of viewing missions. I wrote about it here in 2010.
