Jeremy Lin

Saturday Shout-outs!

Even if you’re not a basketball fan, you gotta love the Jeremy Lin story. The dude just dropped into the Garden from outta nowhere and became a superstar. 20+ points in each of his games. 38 points against Kobe and the Lakers, for cryin’ out loud! But it’s not just his skill that has caught our attention. One of the announcers from last night’s game called him the “humble hero from Harvard.” Indeed he is. The Asian-American Economics major who’s truly not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He lives to give God glory on and off the court – in the good times and the bad times...

I used to love basketball in high school (specifically the Knicks ... and John Starks who I had a monster crush on, but that’s a whole other story). However, I have to be honest, stopped caring about basketball awhile back because it just wasn’t the same as it was in the 90s. Not to mention the pride and arrogance that drowned out the appreciation for the game. But the awesome story of a talented young person who loves Jesus, lives out his faith, works hard and walks humbly … it brings the fun and excitement back to the game. It’s cool to have such an amazing story in the headlines. We needed some good news and we’re all captivated by it – sports fans, New Yorkers, the NBA, Asians, non-Asians, ivy leaguers, journalists, tweeters, Americans, Christians, non-Christians, guys, girls, etc. etc. It’s LINsane! :-) I’m definitely a fan. I pray that God continues to empower Lin and also that He keeps him and blesses him.

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

So, this Saturday, I wanna give a shout-out to Jeremy Lin. Thanks for being who God called you to be and inspiring so many. It’s exciting to witness your dream coming true.
