Last night I had the awesome privilege of hearing Bethsaida Portalatin speak at Lighthouse’s prayer meeting. A few years ago, Bethsaida’s eyes were first opened to the atrocity of human trafficking. The burden became so great that she knew she had to do something. It was in 2010 that she went on the World Race (11 countries in 11 months). While on the World Race in Thailand, the Holy Spirit called her to commit two years there with a ministry to women and children in the red light district. She came back from her trip a few months ago and is leaving for Thailand in about 11 days. Bethsaida shared about the horrifying statistics about modern day slavery (no matter how many times I see those stats, it breaks my heart), what she is doing/will be doing and what we can do here (Create Awareness, Pray!, Donate).
I had the opportunity to spend time with Bethsaida afterward the prayer meeting and was so incredibly blessed. It was a joy to hear all that the Lord has done – in her life, in her heart, and in others throughout the world. My heart was so stirred last night, both in the prayer meeting and at dinner. I was encouraged by our conversation and I am excited about what is ahead. Check out Bethsaida’s blog, Agenda: Love, which has her story as well as information on trafficking and the ministry in Thailand. She posts regularly and will include updates there when she goes. Please remember Bethsaida in your prayers. Her agenda truly is to share the Love of Jesus and to see people set free. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! (2 Corinthians 3:17) I know that many in Thailand will experience that freedom.
