The Thing I Seek Most

Psalm 27 is one of my favorites, full of awesome promises. As I was reading it over the weekend, verses 4-6 stuck out to me specifically...
The one thing I ask of the Lord—the thing I seek most—is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in His Temple. For He will conceal me there when troubles come; He will hide me in His sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At His sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising
the Lord with music.
My desire is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. As I read these verses this time around, I saw it differently. I didn't see that verse as just a desire, I saw it as a promise. Trouble will come, there's no doubt. But if we're living in the house of the Lord, delighting in His perfections and meditating in His temple, we won't be jolted when trouble comes. We're already hidden in Him.
Often times, we run to him out of dire need or in an emergency. And even then, God is so faithful to keep is. But if we are truly living, delighting and meditating the way verse 4 says, the trouble won't throw us off course. Not only are we to reside in the house of the Lord but also taking great joy in Him, contemplating His goodness and faithfulness. Our faith is then strengthened and we become strong in the Lord ... and our worship isn't because of what He's done, but because of who He is...
I read a quote today that really went along with this...
"The reason why many fail in battle is because they wait until the hour of battle. The reason why others succeed is because they have gained their victory on their knees long before the battle came ... Anticipate your battles; fight them on your knees before temptation comes, and you will always have victory.” - R.A. Torrey
This was such a reminder to me to be fighting and worshipping
before the battle...
"Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith." - 1 Peter 5:8-9
"Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind
and a thankful heart." - Colossians 4:2
"Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged
sword in their hand." - Psalm 149:6

Jenn, this is right on target for me today. This is a really good reminder of how we need to approach life.
